Two people, one small kiln

We are qiuqiu and Lisa. We make cat mugs by hand in Chongqing, a hilly, foggy city in southwest China. The first black cat mug happened at the end of 2022, for a friend, and people kept asking for one.

The mark on the base and the box reads eternal studio. It is the name we have signed our work with since the beginning, and it stays on every piece; Buchi Studio is simply how you find us online.

Everything is hand-built and hand-painted by the two of us. We do not use molds, we do not outsource, and we fire everything in our own kiln. In China we sell through a small shop where custom orders are booked out about three months ahead. Outside China we release numbered editions in small drops, so we can keep making each one properly.

The studio's Chinese name is 不持 (Buchi), which roughly means "not holding on". Our line is Still, live in the everyday. It is what we tell ourselves on the days the kiln disappoints us.

In 2024 one of our designs was copied by another maker abroad. We mention it because it is part of why the base of every mug is signed and numbered.
